Coming Back to the Publick House

Below is a picture taken this past winter of Butch Jackson (left) and John DesPres. They both worked here for many years, Butch was once a bell hop and has played Santa for us. He fills us in on a lot of the historical features of the property, and gave us pictures of when the original Bake Shoppe burned.

The other gentleman, John DesPres was the maintenance man here for 30 years – he retired 32 years ago and is now 94 years old. He brought his wife with him yesterday to have lunch. He had lunch here a few months ago and told us stories about how it was during his time here as well. He lived in the old maintenance house and remembers how they moved it from near where the barracks were to where it is now. They had to cut it in half to move it. He told us a few other things as well. He loves coming here!

Let us know if you have any stories to tell! We would love to hear them!
