Can you believe it's October! Time for apple picking, scarecrows and Harvest Festivals!! (Please see our website for more information on the Harvest Festival)...but it is a perfect time to make that warm comfort food!

So we want to share some great dishes throughout the month! Here is the first in a series of recipes made in our kitchens here at the Publick House!

GRANDMA'S SWEDISH SPICE CAKE
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Raisins
1/4 Cup Shortening
1 Cut Water
1 Tsp Cloves
1 Tsp Nutmeg
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tsp Ginger
1 Tsp Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp Salt
Put all ingredients in a heavy pot and bring to a boil. When it bubbles, take off the stove and let cool. When cool, add two cups all purpose flour to mixture and mix well. Pour into a gread and floured large loaf pan. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes.
